THE FLAT EARTH SOCIETY

PORTLAND, OREGON CHAPTER. Correspondence and Enquiries page

We recently heard from a student at Lewis and Clark College who asks:

Mr. Peter Joyes,  I have but one question for now:  Is the moon flat? That's all I have to ask for now
I find this intriguing. I hope to hear from you. From A** A. Student at L & C college

Our response:

Hello A*, Thank you for your enquiry concerning lunar sphericity. I have directed your enquiry to the Lunar Division
of our society. We have a somewhat one dimensional view here in the Portland Chapter of the Flat Earth Society.
We simply don't know if the moon is flat. - a mere cardboard cut out, - or whether it is actually round.
Recent polls indicate that 50% of the people believe that the moon is flat, and 50% of the people are
convinced that the moon is round. Sound familiar?

We suspect, however that your enquiry is a trap. We suspect that  somehow you will attempt to prove
that the earth is round, based on some connection you imagine between the earth and the moon.
Probably the eclipse/shadow theory. HA! HA!.  Please be aware that the flat earth, like gravity
is not just an intellectual theory. It is FAITH BASED.  Thus no matter what evidence you produce,
no matter what horrible accusations you make against our executive staff, we will still believe that
we are right. We will not be swayed by facts. So there.

If there is anything else we can help you with, or if there is any way we can assist you
Please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.

Correspondence received from "FLATTEN OUT SOUTHERN OREGON"

Dear Mr. Joyes,  We understand that your organization promotes the idea that the surface of the earth is flat,
rather than the round image promoted by the scientific community. We have no quarrel with the flat vs. round
argument - you are probably right. But Southern Oregon is certainly not part of any flat earth. On the I5 Highway
between Rice Hill and Ashland, in Southern Oregon, there are six mountain passes.
On a bicycle it is up and down, up and down. Hard to ride, out of breath.
Would you please advise concerning the installation of two bike paths in this area.
Downhill in both directions.

Thank you. Members and friends of  FOSO  will be eternally grateful.

Subject: flat?

Now, before i start, i do believe the world is round and your website was very entertaining. Then i noticed you guys were serious. The Bible DOES NOT IN ANY WAY say that the world is flat, in fact it mentions it being round:

Isiah 40 verse 42, Job 26 verse 7

and i know what your thinking "a-ha! but it meansa flat disc!" well no, the greek text in Isiah 40 verse 42 uses the word

As for satan showing Jesus the glory's of the world. This was a miricle he didnt actually see all of the glories of the world from the mountain. duh!

The pagan churches thought science to be evil its only when science was allowed to be studied that discoveries were made proving it spherical.

As for gravity, i read a theory by the Flat Earth Society that the earth is moving upwards through space. If this were true, the moon would crash into the earth, the sun would dissapear below us and life would not exist. It all makes sense that the core of the earth pulls everything down SO NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, DOWN IS THE DIRECTION WHERE THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH IS!

i mean how do you explain the north and south pole being cold and gradually getting warmer near as you near the equator? Round Earth!

how do you explain the fact that people have actually sailed around the earth and still do today as a race? Round Earth!

When a ship appears from the distance, you see the top of the saild first, then the deck and the sails, then the whole ship... if the world is flat then you'd just see a tiny dot getting closer and closer. Round Earth!

I know im not going to convince you, but you mentioned on the website about the world being billions of years old. Well, i believe the world is at the very most 6,000 years old.
