NEWS &
ITINERARY
I'll be doing the big "Christmas Bazaar 2009" here in
Portland
It is the last weekend of November and the first weekend of December.
The really big news is that I have been accepted as a
vendor at the
PORTLAND SATURDAY MARKET.
It was touch and go for a while. I was initially rejected
because my products were too commercial.
I was told on the phone that they thought that the background pictures which
I submitted
for their evaluation were too "Eighties" and too generic, because I
had obviously not made them myself.
I was informed that they had a woman on the jurying committee who had done
some Calligraphy
and she had thought that my calligraphy wasn't very good.
My key chains were considered much too commercial for the Portland Saturday
Market
which wanted only hand made crafts sold by the vendors who made them.
(but they said my face painting was awesome!)
However, a couple days later, somebody from the Saturday market office
called me
to explain that she had spoken about my work to a houseguest who
had known me from the days when I used to travel with the harvest festival
shows.
Charles who used to sell fire starters (who I remembered as one of the other
vendors there.)
I don't know what Charles actually said about me, but it must have convinced
them
that it was OK for me and my stuff to be in the Portland Saturday Market
Now I have to buy an 8 x 8 tent cover, and get my all my equipment fixed up
to fit into the back of my van, and re-design it for quick set up and take
down.
I think I'll wait until next spring and the sunshine
before I go down there to sell.
Health issues
Last year (2007) I had a "Partial Intestinal Blockage"
just before
the Monroe fair started. However, it cleared while I was in the Monroe
Hospital
overnight on the day before the fair started. The surgeon suggested
immediate
abdominal surgery, but since the blockage had cleared during the night
I felt fine. I checked out of the hospital and walked across the street to
start
work in my booth at the fair.
This past fall, (2008) working at the Puyallup fair I had several similar
"Partial Blockage
Experiences" but each time they cleared after maybe an hour or two. Fearing
a complete blockage,
my doctor suggested that it would be prudent to seek the advice of a
surgeon. "You don't want
to have this kind of surgery in an emergency situation" He said.
I want to appreciate all my many customers and the fair
staff for your support and interest.
